2 SNSD’s interview with Malaysia’s ‘The Star’ newspaper
Malaysia’s ‘The Star’ newspaper tried to interview the girls while they were in Jeju Island for the Wonderful Jeju Super Concert on April 24th but due to their schedules, the interview could only be conducted through e-mails. Here are some contents of the interview which was published in the Star2 section of the paper on June 12th:
2010 was a very good year for Girls’ Generation. How are you going to top that?
Taeyeon: I’m not sure how we will prepare our concept for our performance, but we will never disappoint our fans. Yuri: Many fans like our style. We will come back with a perfect stage which is full of SNSD magnetism. Sooyoung: We always try to show fans a mature and varied performance. We hope they will love our new album, Mr Taxi (released in Japan last month).
People always accuse Asians of copying the West in music but when Lady Gaga released her single. Bom This Way, recently, she was accused of plagiarising your Be Happy by your international fans. What does this say about the growth of K-pop?
Taeyeon: Yes, many people throughout the world are interested in Korean pop music. But it is more important how K-pop applies to various styles rather than just being copied in other countries. Yuri: There’s a craze for popular Korean cultures in many Asian countries because Korean pop music is a successful combination of the old and new. Sooyoung: It is inevitable to refer to western music because it was developed earlier than Korean music. However, K-pop also reinterprets its style well. Seohyun: Recently, Korean pop music has become successful in the western market. I think it is because there are so many singers who work hard at it. That’s why it’s getting popular with foreigner audiences. Sunny: Because of the growth of Korean pop music, many fans can easily get the experience. So we will try to put up better performances for our fans. YoonA: I would like to show our music to fans from other countries. We are supposed to go to Japan next.
Fans love your style. Can you recommend any Korean fashion lines or shops for Malaysian fans who want follow your style?
Taeyeon: I would like to introduce Myung Dong as a great place for youngsters’ culture. Yuri: There are many famous places, but I would like to suggest Rodeo Street, Sinsadong garosugil. Sooyoung: We also read many fashion magazines to find the best fashion.

9 Girls' Generation Named in List of Dream Travel Buddies in Korea
Quote :
d be no surprise that people would love to travel with K-pop stars, including Girls' Generation, and that just happens to be the case here.
The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) recently conducted a survey for the tenth anniversary of its website asking which part of hallyu, or the Korean wave, interested participants the most, and which hallyu stars would be their dream travel buddies in Korea. Nine of the top ten stars chosen were K-pop stars, including Girls' Generation, who came in fifth place with four percent of the vote.
For the record, Super Junior came in first at thirteen percent, Big Bang second at nine percent, JYJ third at seven percent, and TVXQ fourth at five percent.
According to the Korea Herald, the survey had 12,085 participants from 102 countries, all of whom were not Korean, and was conducted in May through the KTO's website, e-mail, Twitter, and Facebook. Ninety percent of the respondents were female, and 77 percent came from Asian countries.
53.3 percent, or 6,441 participants chose K-pop as the part of hallyu that interested them the most, giving it first place in the survey by a comfortable margin of 20.1 percent over Korean dramas. This showed a shift in interests within the last ten years, when K-dramas drove foreigners' attention to Korean culture. A possible reason for that is the boom in social media in the last decade.
As for the breakdown in age groups of participants, 49 percent were in their twenties, eighteen percent in their thirties, seventeen percent in their teens, eight percent in their forties, and six percent in their fifties.
Regardless of all the statistics, the main point is that K-pop is now more popular than ever, and Girls' Generation has played a huge part in the spike in popularity.

22 Girls' Generation Tops Foreign Artist Category for '1st Half of 2011 Oricon Ranking'
eneration has achieved a major breakthrough as a foreign artist in the Oricon charts. The 9 members of Korean girl group Girls’ Generation have topped the “1st Half of 2011 Oricon Ranking” in the foreign artist category with record earnings of 2.6 billion yen in total sales. The girls were also placed 5th overall, after top Japanese artists like AKB48 and EXILE.
Girls’ Generation started off the year with the release of their 3rd single “MR. TAXI/Run Devil Run” which was released on April 27th. They sold more than 150,000 copies for that single alone, and continued to make their mark with their self titled 1st Japanese album, “Girls’ Generation”, selling more than 326,000 in album sales.
Fellow Korean artists like KARA and Tohoshinki were also mentioned as having made significant milestones. The former was ranked 6th on the charts, while Tohoshinki was ranked at 15th.
After breaking the 100,000 mark in album sales after only 2 days, and with their ongoing successful Japan Arena Tour, it's clear that Girls' Generation has no plans to slow down with promotions.

Subject: A Closer Look at Girls' Generation in Japan Through Mnet's 'BOOM the K-POP' Tue Jul 12, 2011 5:05 am
Quote :
A documentary about the Girls' Generation craze is coming out!
A program reporting the Hallyu wave, Mnet's "BOOM the KPOP" will broadcast a Girls' Generation special on July 14. The crew of "BOOM the KPOP" has been actively following Girls' Generation's activities in Japan in order to capture their increasing popularity in Japan.
On June 29, the crew accompanied Girls' Generation on their Japan Arena Tour at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. They also went to a few cities such as Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Harajuku to see the changes in the fans' lifestyles.
According to the crew, the fans in Korea and Japan both have different ways in expressing their love for their artists. Korean fans enjoy supporting their idols in groups whereas the Japanese fans tend to support them individually. However, with Korean singers breaking their way through the Japanese music industry with their skyrocketing popularity, Japanese fans are starting to increasingly resemble Korean fans.
They also mentioned that Girls' Generation is popular amongst women in their 10s-30s. Their popularity isn't limited to just their songs, but in terms of fashion and makeup, too. Because of those factors, Girls' Generation has changed most of the women's lifestyles.
This special feature will be divided into two parts. The first part is "Do you know Girls' Generation?" and will highlight Girls' Generation's popularity in Japan, as well as why the Japanese fans are very passionate about this girl group. The second part, which will be broadcasted on July 21, is called "Right now it's Girls' Generation!" and will feature the changes in the Japanese fans' lifestyles due to the effect of Girls' Generation. The first part will be broadcasted on July 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Subject: UK Newspaper “The Guardian” Writes About Girls’ Generation Sun Oct 02, 2011 2:23 am
Quote :
In the October 1st edition of British newspaper, “The Guardian”, a story ran featuring Girls’ Generation as the leaders of K-Pop’s domination in Japan.
The article details the rise of Korean pop culture in Japan, starting with dramas and then music with artists like TVXQ and Kara, and praises Girls’ Generation as the leaders of the current trend in Japan. Last summer the girls performed in Tokyo for 20,000 fans and recently finished their sold out Arena Tour.
Among the praises that Japanese fans have for K-Pop artists like Girls’ Generation is that they are professional. A Japanese fan says they “are better trained and more sophisticated” than Japanese pop artists.
Perhaps the highest praise, though, came from Stephen McClure, an editor for McClure’s Asia Music News, who states that Mr. Taxi “is a beautifully constructed pop song.”
Girls’ Generation has demonstrated their talent in Japan with their Arena Tour and their double platinum selling Japan First Album. Even months after release their songs and albums continue to sell well and place in the top ten of Japan’s Oricon chart. They have taken Japan, the world’s second largest music market, by storm this year.
As Mr. McClure states, “If anyone from Asia is going to make it internationally, it will be a Korean artist.” Given their soaring popularity in Asia and the upcoming worldwide release of their new album, “The Boys”, the nine ladies of Girls’ Generation seem to be in perfect position to be true world stars.

Tiffany and Yuri Return as MCs on Music Core

Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany and Yuri return as MCs on MBC Music Core.
After leaving their positions at the end of July 2010, a lot of fans have been waiting for their return. Fans were delighted when the schedule on Girls’ Generation’s official website was updated with Tiffany and Yuri’s appearance on the Saturday music show. Their support was also shown when “MC YulTi” appeared on Twitter’s trending topics.
Today was miss A’s Suzy and T-ara’s Jiyeon’s last day as MCs on the show. Tiffany and Yuri brought a bouquet of flowers for Suzy and Jiyeon, and they said a few encouraging words which brought the two to tears. “Both of you have went through a lot. Good work. We also think that you guys did a great job and showed a better side of yourselves through this, so don’t be too sad.”
Yuri then proceeded to ask the two to say their last words to the viewers, and Tiffany exclaimed, “We have prepared tissue!”. After listening to their goodbyes, Tiffany invited them to come play at MBC Music Core’s studio someday.

WHO′S THE BIGGEST STYLE STAR: 2NE1 OR SNSD?
We all know that 2NE1 rocks avant-garde fashion like no other idol, and they’re chummy with some of the world’s top designers– but are they the top style stars in the idol world?
Mnet’s Wide Entertainment News delves into the luxurious world of idol fashion to find out.
Since its debut, the 2NE1 members caught eyes for their wholly different style, donning studs, crazy hair and legos in a way never before seen on stage.
2NE1’s CL was even featured as a guest judge on Project Runway Korea, where the aspiring designers had to create a look that fit CL’s very particular and unique style. The group even and the group even had its own Adidas sneaker with Jeremy Scott.
On the other end of the fashion spectrum, there’s the Girls’ Generation (SNSD) members, who may not go as wild and crazy as 2NE1, but definitely rock the designer goods like no other.
On a recent trip to London for the Burberry Prorsum Fall/Winter 2012 show, the members were snapped in gear that cost more than our monthly rent.
Yoona slung on a trench coat worth 1.8 million won (~1,510 USD) and a 1.5 million won (~1,266 USD) bag, while Seohyun went a little more frugal, with a 1.2 million won (~1,012 USD) jacket – but don’t think she’s being cheap – her bag cost a whopping 2.6 million won (~2,194 USD).
And of course, we already know about Jessica’s obsession with designer bags, as she has Balenciaga bags in pretty much every color.
But these top stars don’t need to pay for all these goods – the companies know how much exposure they’ll get if their products are hanging on the SNSD girls’ bodies – so often, the hugely expensive goods are just free swag.
Lucky them.

GIRL GROUP MEMBERS FROM ABROAD THRIVE IN K-POP
The recently unveiled T-ara member Dani grew up in America since she was four years old. She’s tall and beautiful and it’s hard to imagine she’s still only a kid. Some netizens have said, “She’s probably 15 years old since she lived in America”, and they couldn’t hide their amazement at how mature Dani looks. She is the latest addition to the girl group members to come from abroad. In the ‘National Girl Group’ Girls’ Generation there are members Jessica and Tiffany who are from abroad. It isn’t that these girls have American names for style, but these two were actually born and raised in America. Their impact on the team was deeply appreciated when Girls’ Generation officially kicked off their international promotion and the two members were able to lead series of interviews in fluent English.
In Wonder Girls there are members Yubin and Hyerim. Yubin joined the group to replace an outgoing member and she had made a strong impression with her rapping skills in English. Hyerim goes a notch further with her ability to speak Korean, English, Mandarin, and Cantonese fluently.
Group Kara has members Nicole and Han Seung Yeon who’ve lived abroad. Nicole was born in America and early on as a member of Kara she was loved by the viewers of KBS ‘Golden Bell’ for her cute Korean pronunciation. She contributed in a big way to increase the popularity of Kara in Korea.
2NE1 is another group with many members who’ve come from abroad. Out of the 4 members CL, Park Bom, and Sandara Park have lived outside of Korea. Sandara Park was famously known as ‘Boa of Philippines’ before she debuted and CL speaks English, French, and Japanese fluently. CL is always leading the interviews when the group is promoting abroad.
Lastly, f(x) has three members from abroad. Krystal and Amber were born in America and Victoria is a Chinese national. Combined, f(x) members can speak Korean, English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
In a recent broadcast of KBS ‘Win Win’ Boa has mentioned how difficult it was to learn English and Japanese so she could promote internationally. As K-Pop goes global it is only natural that K-Pop groups are made of members of diverse background and having international members can become a big advantage as these groups branch out internationally.

Tiffany makes a cute mistake on Music Core, accidentally calls INFINITE a girl group
One the June 16th episode of Show! Music Core, Girls’ Generation member Tiffany made a cute mistake while MC’ing.
While introducing INFINITE, instead of saying “일곱 소년들 (Eel Gop So Nyun Deul – 7 Guys)“, Tiffany mistakenly stated “일곱 소녀들 (Eel Gop So Nyuh Deul – 7 Girls)“. Tiffany quickly realized her mistake and had a cute reaction.
This mistake is understandable considering she’s so used to saying 소녀시대 (So Nyuh Shi Dae – Girls’ Generation).

Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung shares her thoughts on Ji Hyun Woo’s public love confession
Girls’ Generation‘s Sooyoung expressed her consent for public love confessions.
On the June 20th broadcast of SBS ‘One Night Of TV Entertainment‘, Sooyoung spoke out about actor Ji Hyun Woo‘s public love confession for actress Yoo In Na.
“I’m so jealous,” she remarked. “All that’s left is for her to receive lots of love.”
Fellow MC Yoon Do Hyun then asked what sorts of actions she would take if she herself received a public confession. He gave her a few different options which included ‘call the agency’, ‘call your parents’, and more.
“I would just accept,” Sooyoung answered, displaying her genuine envy. A panel member then jokingly confessed his feelings for her, however Sooyoung then evoked laughter by saying, “But it also does depend on who it is.”
