The name stands for Five Treasure Island, however, six lovely treasures have been part of the band during the three years of its existence in the Korean music scene.
[2007]
Starting off in 2007 under the company F & C, Lee Hongki (vocals), Choi Jonghun (piano, guitar), Lee Jaejin (bass, vocals) and Oh Wonbin(guitar, vocals) made their debut on June 7th with the song Love Sick meeting great success. The song stayed on top of the Kpop charts for 8 consecutive weeks and also their first album "Cheerful Sensibility" was the sixth best selling album by Oricon charts in Japan. In May of the same year the band appear in an Mnet Show, performed live at Rolling Hall and held their first official showcase at Live House Melon-AX. Close to the end of 2007,
"Cheerful Sensibility" the album was re-released under a new title
"The Refreshment", with three extra songs, a photobook, photocards.
[2008]
Still doing well, the band started their promotions overseas in Malaysia, Thailand and had their first Japanese album called
"Prologue of FT Island" released in June 2008. After their promotional activities ended, the group returned to Korea to release their second Korean album "Colorful Sensibility" in August 2008. A follow-up mini-album,
"Colorful Sensibility Part 2", was released in October 2008.
Later that year, F.T. Island released their first Japanese commercial single "The One". The single was sadly the last official CD to be released with Oh Won Bin and signaled his departure from the band. The boys released a video talking about the departure appearing very attached to each other, stating that it was for music differences and that it is all for good reason.
[2009]
Early 2009 Wonbin was replaced by Song Seunghyun, a cheerful young guitarist, that the fans after a while having overcome their shock and anger for the former's departure, embraced and accepted in the band. With the new lineup change, FT Island released the music video for the song "Bad Woman" and two days later their mini-album
"Jump Up" was brought out in February 2009. The EP met with success and later in May the band went to Japan for promotions for their biggest single under Warner Music
"I Believe Myself". Later in July, FT Island did their comeback in Korea with a new album
"Cross & Change". In a playful and stylish appearance a new era has started for FT Island. Their newest member now considered family by the Primadonnas -the band's fanclub- blends with the rest well so that it leads to a release of a repackage album in October of 2009 called
"Double Date". Moreover, the boys go to Japan for another successful single
"Raining".
The company decides in December of the same year to release in an album the most successful of the latest songs of FT Island with the addition of a few new ones, under the title
"So Long, Au Revoir". With very few promos for the albums they've created the band goes into a very big Asian tour realising the boys dream to be a real pop/rock band. The tour is called "Men's Stories" and has a new at the time unknown band "CN Blue" as support to open the FT Island's concerts.
[2010]
At the end of the tour, with the transferring of leadership from Jonghun to Hongki, the band takes a small break and goes straight into recording for a new Japanese single "Flower Rock" which was released in May of this year. Now the band is in preparations for their new Korean album.
[Meanwhile]
For promotional and personal reasons, in 2009, a
sub-group of FT Island has been created called
FT Triple, consisting of guitarist/pianist Jonghun, bassist/vocalist Jaejin and drummer Minhwan, who are more of a ballad group that has created songs such as "Love Letter", "Far Away" and "Even If You Pinch Me", that are included in the repackage album "Double Date"
