Kangin was on a class field trip goofing off with his friends when an SM scout spotted him. He entered the 2002 SM Youth Best Contest and won first place for Best Outward Appearance. He made his debut as a panelist on SBS "One Night's TV Entertainment in 2004.
On September 16, 2009, Kangin was arrested for his involvement in a fight between two men that took place outside of a bar. Kangin was brought into interrogation to aid investigation along with four other suspects. One of the suspects insisted that Kangin assaulted him, but it was later proven that Kangin only reacted for self-defense. After this all of Kangin's future schedules became temporarily postponed. Shortly one month (October 16) after the assault incident Kangin was involved in DUI plus a Hit and run incident. An intoxicated Kangin crashed his car into a parked taxi at 3:10 AM and abandoned his car before fleeing the scene. Two passengers, along with the cab driver, were hurt but received no serious injuries. At 8:50 AM (5 hours and 40 mins later) Kangin turned himself over to the police station in Gangnam. After these both incidents Kangin was on hiatus and did not participate in any of Super Junior's activities. Later, on May 4 2010, it was announced that Kangin will be starting his army duty in late October 2010 however in the end he will enlist in the army this July.

Latest photo of Super Junior Kang In was revealed from
his military training ground. It was told that the photo was taken after
3 weeks of his military training and it seems that he is having fun
with his comrades in the training facility. It is good to see him lively
and well.

Pictures of Super Junior’s Kangin in the military were recently posted on an online community site and they have been garnering interest from netizens.
If you take a look at the most recent picture, you’ll notice that
Kangin shed a few pounds from his cheeks. Fans were delighted to know
that Kangin has been doing well and becoming more fit.
Netizens who viewed the photo commented, “It’s true then, when
you enlist in the army you end up losing weight,” “Lose a little more

Super Junior’s Heechul celebrated the birthday of fellow member Kangin, who is currently serving in the army.
Through his personal Twitter, the singer wrote on January 17th, “I landed in Korea and it’s my dongseng Kim Young Choon’s (nickname) birthday ^-^ Suddenly remembering ‘Kangin and Heechul’.” Heechul also uploaded a picture of Kangin alongside the tweet.
Fans commented in response, “Happy birthday~,” while wishing Kangin good luck and hoping that he completes his service safely.

Super Junior’s Kangin shares photos and his thoughts while in service

Through Korea’s army magazine, “Army Zine“, Super Junior’s Kangin
revealed special photos from his days in service and shared some of the
thoughts that have been running through his mind since he last updated
fans of his whereabouts.

Asked to describe his feelings after entering the army, he stated,
“I’m reflecting a lot on the fact that I wounded and disappointed my
family and all of those who loved me before I enlisted… I go to sleep
every night wondering, ‘Will I ever be loved again?”

He continued, “I’ve
lost a lot of weight since then and have regained my health. My
thoughts towards our nation has changed a lot as well. I feel that the
citizens of our nation are able to be at ease and trust our nation
because us soldiers must always work hard and never once lose focus
amidst hardships.”

When asked about what he hoped to learn through his service, he revealed, “I
hope to become a person that puts others before me. Someone that isn’t
selfish and doesn’t think wrongful thoughts. It’s only been six months
since I’ve entered, but if I were to discharge with the determination I
have now, I’m sure that I’ll be able to show how much I’ve changed.”

To conclude, Kangin left a message for his fans by writing, ”Our
fans! I really miss you all so much. I will be standing before you
all as someone who is both healthy and confident inside and out, so that
I won’t be embarrassed (of myself) when I greet you. I hope that you
will wait for me, and I hope that everything you pursue will come true.
Please wait for me until my discharge.”
